Blackbird Ventures' medtech investee See-Mode Technologies has entered into a partnership under which Canadian radiology provider Clear Medical Imaging will use its artificial intelligence (AI) software.

See-Mode’s technology assesses ultrasound images, automatically detecting those that reveal clinical problems and provides complete reports.

The partnership is to be implemented in phases, starting with See-Mode’s vascular product; breast and thyroid products will follow later this year.

Canada has a shortage of ultrasound technologists. Clear Medical Imaging believes workflow efficiencies created through the use of See-Mode’s technology will reduce the effects of the shortage.

Clear Medical Imaging chair and chief medical officer Manish Chadda said: “We were drawn to See-Mode’s commitment to performance improvements with their AI-enhanced reporting application.”

According to See-Mode co-founder Milad Mohammadzadeh: “See-Mode’s AI models are able to aid in the interpretation of ultrasound images, removing some of the manual steps from the reporting process, allowing clinicians to spend more time with their patients and lift the overall performance of the team.”

Clear Medical Imaging is the second largest independent healthcare provider in Ontario, Canada’s most populous province. The company’s team serves over 1500 referring physicians and performs over 600,000 examinations annually.

In addition to Blackbird, See-Mode has received venture capital investment from MassMutual Ventures, Cocoon Capital and SGInnovate.
