Future Fund chief investment officer Ben Samild is to leave the organisation to take up a role with a major institutional investor in the Middle East.
Samild joined the Future Fund in 2012 and served as deputy chief investment officer under now chief executive Dr Raphael Arndt when Arndt was chief investment officer.
Samild was a contributor to the Future Fund’s initial research in 2020 into how a changing global political landscape was altering the investment environment. More recently, as chief investment officer since August 2023, he has led the fund’s investment team in repositioning the portfolio in response to those changes.
Arndt said: “I want to thank Ben for the significant contribution he has made to the Future Fund over a period that has witnessed wide-ranging changes across the investment landscape.”
Deputy chief investment officer Hugh Murray has been appointed interim chief investment officer and Samild will support a smooth transition before he leaves for his new position.
A recruitment process will be undertaken to appoint a permanent new chief investment officer.
