Industry superannuation fund Aware has promoted portfolio manager, growth assets, Jenny Newmarch, to a new position as head of private equity (global).

The move reflects the $150 billion fund’s push into overseas markets.

Earlier this year, Aware revealed plans to make direct investments globally in areas such as private equity, infrastructure and real estate.

Aware is starting by building a Europe-based investment team under Damien Webb, deputy chief investment officer and head of real assets. Webb is now head of international.

Aware expects to expand its funds under management to more than $250 billion by 2025.

Formerly First State Super, Aware has more than a million members, mainly nurses, teachers, police officers, emergency services personnel and other public sector employees. The fund had been making direct investments in private equity since 2013.
